Explore the love, beauty and struggles of interracial couples.

We Love in Color, is a social documentary project and photojournalism book series. It is a voice of reason for interracial couples that the world has scrutinized for loving someone just because they are of a different race.

It was created with the idea that to truly love and understand one another the premise of being colorblind can create more harm. To ignore one’s color is to ignore all of the many aspects of their race and culture that define them. To love in color is to love and acknowledge all of that person, not just part of them.

Photographic images of each couple are taken in black and white so one shifts his or her focus away from the color of one’s skin. It’s to present the idea that love itself has no color. Love unconditionally.

atlanta

Despite the city’s reputation as the “Black Mecca” due to its rich black history and black achievement, the Atlanta of today is ranked as one of the most segregated and economically inequal cities in the South. For some, this disparity is a hard concept to grasp and an even more uncomfortable conversation to have. But if we want to promote change and empower our fellow Atlantans, these conversations are necessary—especially when they occur between people of different races within a relationship.

Through intimate interviews, the interracial couples featured in Atlanta in Color unravel stereotypes, fear of discrimination, and stories of race handed down through generations. The individuals that make up these couples have learned much from each other, and it is clear that society has much to learn from them as well.

denver

As the first installment of the Love In Color series, Denver in Color’s purpose has been to give interracial couples a voice with which they may address others who do not agree with their choices. Most importantly, the goal has been to show everyone that the love shared between two people of any race is equal to that of any other couple in this world.

In Denver In Color, we’re endeavoring to shine a spotlight on those who truly deserve our acknowledgement: the interracial couples who can teach us all more about the true color of love.
